Experience the Thrill at the Tshwane Library Chess Tournaments!

Hosted by the City of Tshwane in collaboration with Tshwane Chess, this event offers chess enthusiasts the opportunity to compete in one of seven regional tournaments, each held in a different location. Participants are encouraged to review the details below for each regional tournament’s specific dates and details.

NB! This is a community event and you may only enter if you live in the ward / area of the regional tournament location.

Tournament Overview:

• Format: 5 Rounds Rapid Tournament
• Time Control: 20:20 minutes
• Rating: This tournament is NOT rated.
• Entry Fee: Free!
• Players must provide their own lunch.
• No clock will be provided.

Regional Tournament Prizes:

• 1st Place: R2500 book/grocery voucher
• 2nd Place: R1000 book/grocery voucher
• 3rd Place: R500 book/grocery voucher

Participation Awards:

• All participants will receive "Reading is Fun" medals and goody bags.

Advancement to Finals:

• The top three players from each regional tournament will qualify for the Library Chess Finals.

Library Chess Finals Prizes (Held on June 14, 2024):

• 1st Place: R2000 book/grocery voucher + frosted chess set
• 2nd Place: R1000 book/grocery voucher + frosted chess set
• 3rd Place: R500 book/grocery voucher + frosted chess set

Finals Venue:

• Es'kia Mphahlele Community Library, located at the corner of Lillian Ngoyi and Madiba Streets.
