Tshwane Library Chess Tournaments

The Tshwane Library Chess Tournaments are an initiative by the City of Tshwane to promote chess among local youth through community libraries. Throughout May and June 2025, seven regional tournaments will be held across the city. All school learners are welcome to participate, with separate sections for primary and high school players at each regional event.

The top three high school players from each region will qualify for the City Finals, taking place on 21 June 2025 at the Mamelodi West Community Hall.

Regional Prizes:

Primary School Learners (Grade R – Grade 7):
The top three winners will each receive a chess set and a medal
High School Learners (Grade 8 – Grade 12):
- 1st Place: R2,000 book voucher and trophy
- 2nd Place: R1,500 book voucher and trophy
- 3rd Place: R1,000 book voucher and trophy
- The top three high school winners from each regional tournament will qualify for the City Finals.

City Finals Prizes
(High school section only)

1st Place: R3,000 voucher and a glass chess set
2nd Place: R2,000 voucher and a glass chess set
3rd Place: R1,000 voucher and a glass chess set

Eligibility Criteria: This event is open to all primary and high school learners currently enrolled in Grades R to 12.

These tournaments are designed to be inclusive, providing young chess players an opportunity to compete, develop their skills, and gain valuable experience in a structured and supportive environment.
